01 / THE MEETING
02 / THE MENUBest Friends for Dinner! begins in a forest with an unlikely meeting: Donna, a cheerful sheep, runs into Oz, a wolf who would very much like to eat her. Instead of running, she gets curious about why hunting is going so badly for him.
Donna's sunny account of the meeting makes it sound almost ordinary. It isn't. The whole story lives in the gap between what she says and what you quietly suspect — and the joke is that she never seems to notice the difference.

Donna is a cheerful sheep who decides Oz is her friend. Oz is a shy wolf who struggles with hunting. Between them they make one very strange pair — and one very long dinner.
There are no villains here and no rescue party either. Just two characters who are very polite to each other for very different reasons, and a reader slowly working out who is actually running the conversation.
